Lakota is a very special, angelic dog. I enjoyed my morning with her so much. I always give dogs time to accept me into their space, but Lakota was pretty quick to decide that I was welcome in her home. She showered me with kisses and let me pet her everywhere. Such a sweet girl. Lakota was given 3 months to live, so her people wanted to capture some portraits to remember her by. It was very bittersweet seeing such a happy, well-loved dog, so loyal to her people. I also really enjoyed my time with Lakota’s people. I was amazed by how much we had in common.

This is one of Lakota’s places she loves to lie in her backyard.

I love this one. As we were heading outside, she just happened to be peeking out at me from the kitchen. She stayed there long enough for me to capture this.

When we were done, she was so tired. Here she is resting on her couch. It’s always heart wrenching to know that a companion animal doesn’t have much time left. Lakota is very lucky to have this family to love her during this time.

This is the toy that I brought to squeak to get her attention, but it worked just as well to get her to sit still.

Oh, the faces she made! I alternated between racing to capture her silly expressions and bending over, just laughing at her.

For the safety of the dog, I always ask the owners to keep them on leash during our session, unless we are in an enclosed area. I then remove the leash in post processing. I have many clients ask me what to wear for their family session, and many think the entire family has to wear matching outfits. This family is a perfect example of wearing complementary colors, not necessarily matching colors. You can see they chose grays, purples and jeans. Big brother and sister were once again super willing to pose however I asked.

Ok, this family just happened to have the cutest baby chicks available. Mom had big sister go catch her favorite speckled chick to perfectly match Sawyer’s little outfit. lol We had so much fun with this one!

I just love the simplicity of a new baby on black.

Newborns on their own are always beautiful, but then capturing the emotions of parents interacting with their new little people is extra special.

If you are interested in newborn portraits, the ideal time to capture them is in the first 10 days. Most clients contact me during their pregnancy, but you can also contact me after your baby has been born. Newborn sessions are generally conducted in the comfort of your home, but outdoor sessions are possible in very nice weather.

What is it about black and white maternity portraits that always get me? The way the light accentuates the belly and then drops off into dark shadows. This client made it very easy for me and she was very relaxed in front of the camera.

I just loved her pregnant profile in this one.

A beautiful pregnant mom with her most cooperative family. These kids were so sweet and patient with me.

Most moms want a belly shot with hands, and I especially loved how this little girl’s face was at just the right height.

This cocker spaniel was also a pretty attractive subject. I really love when the family pet can make a lifestyle maternity image like this even more casual and relaxed.

See how this ‘sly dog’ managed to appear in this one too? lol

Sunset pictures are always great with the sky changing color, but I was thrilled when we drove down the street and parked at this location overlooking Folsom Lake. It was so beautiful! I may have even squealed a couple times because I just *knew* how these were going to look when I got home and started editing. What fun!

I’m Ginger. Please look for me in the outdoor enclosure. I’m not sure why I’m with the feral cats, but it’s ok. I can roll with it.

I’m Scottie and I’m perfectly adorable, if I do say so myself. I like to cock my head when you talk to me. I would love to go home with you for Christmas. Well, it’s probably a little late for that. I would also be just fine with going home with you in time for New Year’s.

Hey there, I’m Stoellen. I’m a pretty cool cat. I love to be petted and I’m very tolerant off all these other cats around me. Some of them are a little high-maintenance, to put it nicely, but not me. I’m a laid back guy. And please don’t judge me by my missing patch of fur on the right side of my face. I even have a few whiskers that needed to be trimmed when I had surgery. I promise my fur will be just as beautifully puffy on the right side when it grows back in.

We are Cranberry and Giblet. We look just like twins. It can be hard to get a good facial shot of us because we are very focused on the toys. We are very sweet though.

Please don’t overlook us because we’re black. Yeah, I know that some folks prefer those ‘other’ colors, but if you ask us, black is where it’s at. Black goes with everything, it’s timeless and classic. You won’t regret considering us.

You really need to come and see me in person because as cute as my photos are, I will have a better chance at capturing your heart in person. I have only 3 legs, but I don’t let it get me down. I’m Kiki (left) and that’s my mom, Mimi, on the right. I’m very friendly and just love to chase those long, dangly toys that they have here. I talk to people through the door of my condo, and then Mom sucks them in with her sweet ways. She stays tucked in her bed, but she just loves to be pet.

That’s a nice way of saying I could stand to lose a few ounces. Does this planter make me look thin?
